Who we are

The St. Francois County Conservative Club (SFCCC) is a county-wide, non-profit organization based in St. Francois County, Missouri, focused on promoting conservative principles and political engagement in the local community. The club regularly hosts events such as candidate forums and meetings at venues like the Farmington Public Library, where local and state politicians discuss legislation, share platforms, and interact with attendees. For example, in July 2024, we organized a forum featuring candidates for Missouri State Senate and House of Representatives, allowing them to present their visions to voters, as well as a popular and well-attended town hall with our local sheriff candidates.

Rise of Conservatism in St. Francois County

St. Francois County has undergone a notable transformation from a politically competitive area to a stronghold of conservatism over the past few decades, reflecting broader shifts in rural America. Historically, our county’s economy was tied to lead mining and union labor, which often aligned with Democratic values in the mid-20th century, as Missouri itself was a swing state with strong Democratic roots in rural and working-class areas. In the 1990s, presidential elections showed relative balance—for instance, in 1996, Republicans garnered about 51% of the vote, indicating a competitive landscape.

The rise of conservatism gained momentum in the late 1990s and early 2000s, paralleling statewide Republican gains in legislative seats and a cultural shift toward conservative priorities like pro-life policies, gun rights, and economic conservatism. By the 2010s, the county had solidified as Republican-leaning, driven by demographics including a predominantly White population (88.9% as of 2020) and a strong evangelical Protestant presence (over 45% Southern Baptist), part of the Bible Belt’s influence that emphasizes traditional values. Presidential voting patterns illustrate this: Republican support jumped to 73% in 2020 and nearly 75% in 2024, with local offices now almost entirely held by Republicans (e.g., sheriff, prosecutor, and commissioners). This shift mirrors Missouri’s evolution from a bellwether state to reliably red, with rural counties like St. Francois moving away from Democratic union ties toward GOP dominance amid national polarization.

Purpose of the Current Club

It recruits by hosting candidate meet-ups and forums that spotlight aspiring politicians, helping to identify and promote new talent aligned with conservative ideals in our local communities.
